I have always and still am skeptical about the "donuts on a rope" contrails. I see odd looking contrails around Rachel all the time, mostly due to weather conditions. Reminds me of the UFO phenomenon: Someone's sighting of a "donuts on a rope" contrail goes "viral" (as we would say today) and suddenly everyone sees them.
