Coincidentally, I have recently met both Chris Gibson and a friend of mine who was a WSO on F-111s in the UK in the mid-1980s.
The latter knows nothing about such an event, although he is well-connected to other Aardvark retirees. I asked him whether an F-111 with wings folded (eg so that the jet has a triangle appearance) could formate with a KC-135 and he said yes, if flying at a high angle-of-attack. But he couldn't think why one would do so.
One has to ask why F-111s would be in formation with a classified airplane. Fighter escort? Hardly, they were not suitable or tasked for that mission.
