Now that's definitely a lazy job:

"The bus enters the base by the signs on Groom Lake Road at about 7.30 am, and leaves at 4.50 pm. It takes about 10 minutes to get from the signs to the terminal inside the base, which means that the work hours for the workers are from 7.40 am to 4.40 pm."

Unless the driver has some additional duties while on base, that would mean he has nothing to do from like 8 am to 4:30 pm, 8 1/2 hrs of just hanging around?

Ok, if the whole trip takes about 1 hr, the morning trip would depart at like 6:30 am, you need to prepare the bus, maybe live some distance from where the bus is parked overnight, so you have to get up at something around 5:30 am and will only be home like 6 to 6:30 pm.

Therefore, some rest certainly well-deserved.

Still, would be interesting to know if the driver has some other duties on base for the afternoon, like moving deliverables from building to building?

On the other hand, military is often not known to be super-efficient in terms of staff and this is most certainly not the best-paid job on the base ;-)

Of course, all "Spekulatius" - but I find it still interesting to think about things nobody here will every know.
