I forgot to add this fascinating detail about the company that supplied the aircraft and pilots for our MEDEVAC missions. About a year or so after I left the program, one of their jets was flying out west and plowed into a mountain in Arizona. It seems the jet was on autopilot, nobody in the cockpit. The crash occurred over 20 years ago, but if I recall the NTSB findings correctly, there were a couple of female passengers on board... and a lot of alcohol.
