ACTS uses AARDS pods (same size as AIM-9 missiles) which are special GPS pods that read aircraft state parameters (heading, speed, etc) with much more fidelity than they can get from GPS by connecting to the aircraft bus directly. All this data is piped down to the NTTR range control. Not only does this allow for greater real-time SA in the control room but it also permits real-time kill removal, i.e. can immediately declare a player "dead" based on the shot parameters and put a red "X" on his position so he and the other players know that he is no longer in the fight. "Dead" fighters can then fly out to a "regenerate" airspace and can then re-enter the fight will minimal loss of training opportunity for the poor Lt who just died.
