I remember making friends at new-hire training the summer I interned at the National Nuclear Lab in Idaho. The guy was coming in as a purchasing manager for the Abrams tank armor program.

I would run into him at lunch in the dining hall from time to time, which I thought was interesting, since the office and dining hall were in town, and the Abrams stuff was 50 miles out in the desert.

I came to find out that his clearance hadn't come through and so they had him working out of the break room. And by working I mean doing the 10% of his job that didn't involved classified materials.

I was there for 4 months, and he was still sitting in the lunch room when I left.
