I seem to recall seeing a design using this principle on one of those History Channel weird aircraft shows, of a prototype from way back in the day... but the design was absolutely massive (a few hundred feet by a few hundred feet, and had to be constructed out of balsa and foil to make it light enough to get off the ground. completely impractical. it looked like some massive radar array. just went up then down, hardly enough power to even lift itself I have seen this scaled down for gimmicky science fair project too - but again, ultra light and barely able to lift itself
