While I'm not saying that the SR71 isn't a contender for the donuts-on-a-rope contrails, that photograph certainly isn't showing that. All that it is showing is the energy waves present in the afterburner exhaust, sometimes known as 'blue diamonds'. Maybe just give the images a look if you google 'blue diamonds afterburner'.
