I did the hike to Tikaboo in 2017 and we stayed at the Windmill Ridge in Alamo, but I had heard it closed up, but not for sure. The hike is hard but very doable. My wife and I made it up in about 2.5 hours. The trailhead is at the very end of the road and there "was" a make shift sign pointing the way. Like Joerg said, a good GPS is a good idea and plenty of water. Good luck and can't wait to see the pictures!
