Besides dismissing sightings of the alleged "Brilliant Buzzard" as misidentified Long-EZ aircraft, the late Curtis Peebles also was of the opinion that it was highly unlikely that the USAF was developed a runway-based TSTO system on the grounds that such a system would have cost billions of dollars. The AWST article by William Scott in the 1992 AWST issue and the article about the alleged Aurora spyplane by Bill Sweetman in a March 1993 issue of Popular Science don't use the name Brilliant Buzzard for the alleged TSTO mothership reportedly seen over the Mojave Desert in the early 1990s.
