I have never tried this, but looking at GE there are two alternate routes to the Tikaboo Peak trail head.

If you park at Badger Spring and hike up the wash on the left you eventually end up at the trail head. You are looking at 350 ft additional climb though.

Or you can drive about 1/4 mile further and take a short side road on the left to a camp site just off the main road. Hiking up to the trailhead is only an additional 150ft climb. May be worth exploring some time.
