During Oxcart the satellites weren't as regular as when we brought in the MiGs for Have Doughnut, Have Drill, and Have Ferry. With Oxcart, we had almost a 4 hour window and at first ignored the infrared satellites. That turned out to be a mistake. The Russians were able to determine the shape and dimensions of the A-12 from its former shadow outline picked up by infrared. With the MiG exploitation program the satellites were often spaced 45 minutes apart, which totally shut us down until the orbit decayed enough that one would fall out of orbit.
