I think the possibility of a deliberate hard-landing is very remote in this case. a) SOAR uses fast ropes for rapid insertions like this - much quicker than exiting a crashed helo, and much less likely to injure the passengers. And plenty fast enough. b) This appears to be an as-yet undisclosed version of the H-60, or (less likely) an entirely new undisclosed helicopter. (I'll provide details in another post). So very unlikely the plan was to leave such a sensitive bird behind.
