There is a difference between ILS marker beacons (outer, middle and inner), which transmit on 75 Mhz, and and Low/Medium Frequency non-directional beacons (NDBs) associated with ILS approaches which are called "Compass Locators". The marker beacons emit an aural tone and illuminates a light on the instrument panel to mark a position. NDBs/locators allow an aircraft to home in on the beacon and fly toward it. On the other hand, marker beacons provide no directional guidance. The two transmitters are often co-located on purpose, which contributes to the confusion of the terms.
