I just read this sad news in an old Pilot magazine,
atleast he died doing what he liked most.
His rivalry with Yeager was typical for that type of pilot in that era. They were both great pilots and daredevils but not without faults, Yeager pushed the envelop too far in the X1A, Crossfield crashed through a hangar wall because he did not read the pilot handbook for the F100. But they were both great man for the development of aviation !
I once heard Scott in an interview that annoying Chuck was great fun ! that says it all !
