I hear you about the forum software. It is as old as this web site. Over time I have made some modifications but for a per-user memory of read messages I would have to completely re-write it. Over the years I have made several attempts to find a better solution. Unfortunately they all require me to install software packages on the server. Which I cannot do because I am using a shared server. A dedicated server would be a lot more expensive. And I really don't want to depend on a 3rd party forum host where I don't have full control. If anyone has a good suggestion for an easy to install (preferably Perl based) alternative I am certainly open to looking into it.
