I would love to believe that the designation was not merely cynical salesmanship or crass toadying, but a reference to one of the black projects aircraft flown at Groom Lake. In the past there have been such aircraft as the YF-43B (circa 2005-2007) and YF-45D (circa 2020). The latter fits the timeframe (about five years ago) but was flown by a Navy pilot assigned to the FME program, so possibly a foreign type rather than a NGAD competitor.
