Time to dispel a myth. Nothing at Groom is owned or operated by any contractor. All of the work there is done on a govt contract. So there's no such thing as a "Boeing" hangar or a "Lockheed" hangar. The "black world industry" goes there when the US Govt requires them to go there. Trust me, no one goes there by choice, the life style is miserable. However, let's go with you supposition that the cost at Groom is just "renting an hangar". If that were the case, Why do folks think that is any different than just "renting an hangar" at TTR?. In reality Groom is a much more strategic location than TTR, hence everything costs more ("Location, location, location"). To have physical presence at Groom requires a higher security clearance than at TTR. Maintenance guys at TTR need only have F-117 clearance... Maintenance guys at Groom require more than that.
