I agree. It wouldn’t work in that sense of these concept.

When I think of a repellent, I think of a ThermoCell. However this device is a single clip on that repels insects and moves with the user.

If a similar concept was applied to defeat acoustics, I’d imagine would have to be positioned in a circular array around the protected environment for the “cone” effect. Would likely not be a very mobile and quickly deployable setup. But in theory might work.

I’m speaking so far out of bounds of my knowledge on this topic so anyone is welcome to shoot me down here.
