Unfortunately, while the P1000 has a mental zoom which is fine in daylight, a top level ISO of 6400 and a tiny sensor renders it useless for pics like that at night. There really is no way to tell what's in those photos sadly. You would be best looking to upgrade your kit, even looking on some used sections of retailers or places like mpb.com, if you want to get something usable at night on future trips.
