Sound waves and radar wave are entirely different phenomena. Radar waves are absorbed beacsue of their electrical properties. Sound waves are mechanical in nature.

I suspect the bats were not getting a solid sonar return because of the angular nature of the airframe, i.e. the sound was bouncing off in unusual angles and it messed up the bats sonar "receiver"
