During 9/11, I was at Newark (EWR) as airline liaison with FAA ATC and other federal/state agencies. During the following weeks there were multiple CAPs, some directly overhead NYC. They even had names like "Freedom CAP", "Hershey CAP", etc. but were not publicly known. As far as I know, these CAPs consisted of USAF F16s and KC10s in about the FL180-200 level range. There is much more to the story but for another time.
