As Joerg mentioned, you will see lots of spotters with long lens cameras on the east side of the Speedway across from Nellis AFB runways. North Las Vegas does have a bad reputation, but security should not be an issue during daylight with lots of friendly aviation fans. LVMPD (police) are often there using Speedway areas to practice PIT maneuvers (fun to watch between flights). I've watched the late evening flights when nobody was around. The only predator I saw was a kit fox. Enjoy your trip.
