I think there may be some confusion over the aircraft type here; the mapping aircraft that I'm thinking of is IL-38 71-RED that was present at Sherman-Grayson, TX in 1995. I have a photo and posted it on another forum where someone suggested that it was operated by OAO NIIS probably for geomagnetic surveys as a IL-38 may have done in Afghanistan. There was a 71-RED stored at St Petersburg since 2007 awaiting rework (last noted 2021?), this may be the same airframe.
