On page 250 of the second edition of the book "Dark Eagles" by the late Curtis Peebles, it is mentioned that the aircraft seen over Antelope Valley in May 1990 and speculated by William Scott to have been a tactical reconnaissance flying wing (which he called "TR-3 Black Manta") were F-117s. The December 1991 Popular Science article "America's New Secret Aircraft" conceded on page 34 that the eyewitness report of the aircraft sighting over Antelope Valley in May 1990 could not deduce whether the triangular aircraft dubbed "TR-3" by William Scott had vertical stabilizers jutting out from the rear part of the airframe, but Peebles' dismissal of the triangular aircraft seen over Antelope Valley as F-117s makes sense because we know that the Tactical High-Altitude Penetrator design study was not a Northrop project as Scott claimed.

Just like the August 1989 aircraft sighting over the North Sea, the 1990 Antelope Valley sighting is another example of an aircraft sighting once suspected to have been a classified stealth reconnaissance aircraft but now seen as unlikely to have had a connection to stealthy reconnaissance aircraft development.
