926th Wing
·
On October 16, 2023, US Air Force F-16 Fighter Falcons assigned to 926th Wing, Nellis AFB, NV, launched their first locally generated sorties. After several weeks of 926th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Airmen working diligently to accept, prepare, and ensure operational readiness, this first sortie marks the next step in moving the 706th Aggressor Squadron towards Initial Operational Capability.
The aircraft were recently transferred to the 926th Wing from the 301st Fighter Wing at Joint Reserve Base-Naval Air Station Ft Worth, and will be the core of the 706th Aggressor Squadron’s adversary air capabilities, supporting USAF Weapons School training, Exercise RED FLAG, and other Air Force and Joint Force exercises.
Today’s sortie was flown by the 706th Aggressor Squadron Commander, Lt. Col. Andrew Baumgart, and 926th Wing Deputy Commander, Col. Mike Cabral. The sortie is the first of a series of basic pilot proficiency sorties, as they qualify on the jets’ improved software, avionics, displays, datalinks and General Electric engines. This is the first of several sorties that will be flown to fully qualify 706th Aggressors to fly their critical Adversary Air support role.
