We've heard a lot of talk from the Air Force about returning to the Century Series model of rapid innovation.

The Century Series:
North American F-100 Super Sabre
McDonnell F-101 Voodoo
Convair F-102 Delta Dagger
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter
Republic F-105 Thunderchief
Convair F-106 Delta Dart

North American, McDonnel, Convair, Lockheed, Republic --- all building fighters at the same time. And then if you look at the Navy side, Douglas and Vought were also building unique airframes that all entered service within about 15 years. That's essentially a brand new fighter (or fighter/bomber, but semantics) into the arsenal every 2 years.

Competition breeds innovation.

Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman have owned the defense world for too long and it's really cool to see an up-and-comer like JetZero not only throw its hat into the ring, but actually be picked (even if they're collaborating with NG on execution).

Let's hope there are more of these scrappy little guys out there coming up with novel and exquisite ways to win (or better yet, deter) future wars.
