I've had some agents monitoring the peer reviewed papers about metamaterials that have been cropping up in the civilian world for a couple of years and sending me digests. I don't follow most of the math (because it's not my field) but if the executive summaries are halfway accurate some wacky stuff is possible. Things like the material of a lens also acting as a camera without any of the usual equipment behind it (like CCDs or some kinds of exotic photographic emulsion films).
