The Virgin Galactic is operated in a very similar way to a lot of X planes: dropped from a mothership and shoots up in the sky (probably the easiest way to get something high). What are the odds the Virgin Galactic spacecraft used some old air force/NASA designs or at least shares some features? The commercial rocket has a very similar design to some of the lifting body designs, specifically the cancelled X-20.
