Yeah, the AF doesn't have much choice anymore. The current fleet of B-52s might well last into the 2050s, but it's getting more and more expensive to maintain that fleet. Some say they won't be economically viable as early as the late 2020s or early 2030s. OTOH, others expect them to remain economically viable into the mid-2040s. But, yeah, our strategic nuclear bombing capability remains firmly in the grip of the B-52 Stratofortress originally designed in the late 40s.
