The internet speculation about YF-24 being associated with the MRF-24X concept was all due to the fact that the letter "Y" in YF-24 raised questions about whether or not YF-24 was a classified prototype fighter or some other aircraft. Of course, as mentioned on this forum, several Soviet jet fighters brought to Nevada for evaluation testing by the USAF bore YF designations and were categorized as "classified prototypes", and the Bird of Prey and Tacit Blue also received YF-1xx designations even though they were merely technology demonstrators. Regardless of whether the YF-24 was another captured aircraft from the former USSR (e.g. MiG-29, MiG-23) or a technology demonstrator, past suggestions on the internet about the YF-24 being related to the unbuilt MRF-24X are not true.
