Something that appears to be a satellite, that brightens and does an impossible turn for something in orbit, then returns to its previous lower brightness while moving on a new heading.

Seen those going back to the 1980s in Califormia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida. Anywhere I go I like to watch dark night sky and I'm usually rewarded with a view.

I knew someone who worked at Edwards and he mentioned "the Bouncer" when I told him about seeing "a satellite do a U-turn". That term also came up in an Aviation Week article back in the early 1990s.

I'm told that if you use night vision goggles you'll see them often and much clearer and for longer than just a naked eye observation.
