I just pulled up some papers related to what you referenced. This is very similar to something I worked on early in my doctorate program. We called it the color stereoscopic effect. We used it to induce 3D vision on 2D objects without the need for 3D glasses. It has to do with the various wavelengths of light having different focal points in the eye.
