The plasma can be small, or can be made large, 747 sized (as in the 80's during SDI tests) but when they get that large? Plasma 'peels off' in crazy filaments, and it looks like a mother-ship being escorted by smaller UFO that then 'vanish' back into the main body of the 'craft'.
