Working black back in the day took its toll on a number of families/marriages. In those pre-cellphone/internet days, we'd travel TDY three out of four weeks (thank God for "home week" eventually) to points (mostly) West without being permitted to tell loved one even where we were going/staying. Other than having a local phone number to call in case of an emergency, there was no way for families to contact us.
