Not everyone is familiar with the NTTR and Desert MOA airspace: The airspace around (not over!) Area 51 is controlled by Nellis Control, a military agency. But it is regularly opened to civilian air traffic on weekends when the ranges are "cold". The photos in question were taken from an aircraft operating legally in controlled airspace. The pilot received permission from the controlling agency to enter that airspace. As for Mr. Turley, I have reached out to him but have yet to hear back.
