In reading the link, I believe the rate is stated as 1 Gbps.The reality of this is credible and real. The data rate supported by such a link is however much less. A 1 Gbps hardwire link can provide a maximum rate of 400 Mbps of data with the rest being considered aas overhead; the laser link, like any fiber-optic configuration, requires a very significant SNR to support such a rate over a sustained period. However, such is not the case for this application and they can get along quite nicely using short duration bursts. Congratulations to General Atomic for accomplishing this significant milestone in air to air communications. And thanks for pointing it out to the community.
