Use of the 737 aircraft began in the early 1980s to support the increase in activity due to the F-117A and TACIT BLUE programs. Prior to that, EG&G operated a couple of DC-6 aircraft. The "Janet" call sign dates to around 1970, when base commander Dick Sampson directed the use of his wife's name for the commuter airlift radio call.
