MRF-24X was a design study only. As explained elsewhere on this thread, the resume of Joseph Lanni, like the resumes of the USAF pilots who flew Soviet MiGs bearing cover USAF F-1xx designations, had the reference to YF-24 removed from its subsequent editions, leading me to come to an understanding that YF-24 in all probability was used for a technology demonstrator. Recall that the Northrop Tacit Blue and Boeing Bird of Prey were given the cover designations YF-117D and YF-118G respectively despite being technology demonstrators, and since Lanni apparently flew classified prototypes, the possibility that the YF-24 may have been the same kind of aircraft that crashed at RAF Boscombe Down in 1994, perhaps serving as a tech demonstrator for a stealthy fighter-bomber or Mach 6 reconnaissance aircraft.
