I remember that the late Ben Rich in a memoir about his time as head of the Lockheed Skunk Works dismissed the cryptonym as merely a Pentagon codename for the B-2 program, but I saw a clip from an episode of the TV documentary series "Black Files Declassified", titled "American UFOs", in which Colonel Adelbert W. “Buz” Carpenter, who managed special access Air Force programs at the Pentagon in the 1980s, shed more light on Rich's assertion about Aurora being the codename for B-2 production funding, explaining: “AURORA looked like a reconnaissance program but, in fact, [represented] a lot of production money that was to be used for the B-2.”

In retrospect, Carpenter proved Ben Rich right about what Aurora truly was.
