Sometime ADSB will put a bogus aircraft icon right beneath an aircraft. Often times it will be the same exact altitude or just slightly below or behind. If the tankers where coming in for landing then I doubt anything was beneath them. I actually saw this happen again just today for US Customs Beechcraft. Again I dont anyone was beneath it. I also have seen these bogus icons on aircraft leaving the the airfield I have view of. Not saying this is what happened is your case but just throwing it out there.
