It didn't involve an ejection, but the case of the Jamison family from Oklahoma is an example of how hard a search can be. Two parents and their young daughter vanished under strange circumstances in 2009. After their abandoned vehicle was found a massive seach ensued - there was a small child involved, after all - covering a wide area.
Four years later a hunter came across their remains less than three miles from the vehicle, well within the search radius. Their remains were not hidden and there was no indication they'd ever been moved.
So much time had elapsed it was impossible to determine causes of death.
