Walter Hogle was the USAF general who claimed that the aircraft seen by Chris Gibson was an Avro Vulcan, yet he was unaware that the Vulcan had been retired from service in 1984 and was not capable of refueling from a KC-135. Someone at the Fighter Control forum wrote a post back in 2010 in which he agreed with Curtis Peebles' opinion that the aircraft refueling from the KC-135 was nothing more than an F-111 with its wings swept back and outright did not take seriously Chris Gibson's discarding of the idea that Gibson saw an F-111 refueling from the tanker, given that the KC-135 seen over the North Sea was not carrying the kind of hydrocarbon-based fuel necessary to power a Mach 6 reconnaissance aircraft.
