How sure are you about FORTE10 really originating from Malta?

Sometimes it also seems to be coming out of NAS Sigonella in Sicily approx. 25 km southwest of Catania (btw, very beautiful, drive around Etna if you can get there) where is a mix of USAF and NATO Tritons, the latter called RQ-4D and operated much like AWACS out of Geilenkirchen AB. From what I got there are 5 NATO and 9-10 US airframes there.

However, with Malta only about the size of Las Vegas and the plain around Etna densely populated, I'd doubt there is anything really super secret there, but who knows. Here also (sorry, German only) piece on the NATO component:
