If those prototypes were being evaluated as foreign assets, wouldn't it make sense that they would have been declassified by now? Both the previous owners and the menufacturing country will know perfectly well how and where their aircraft ended up.

If they were Sovjet assets then the country doesn't even exist anymore. How they aquired those foreign assets is always an interesting story, but it can't be a good reason to keep something classified for decades. That is of course because their previous owners know perfectly well how the USA got hold of their assets. You don't just take an aircraft without them knowing it.

So it seems likely to me that the YF-110E/L/M involved three prototypes of US built aircraft.

Now, where to start looking for them?
