With a decent scanner and a good external antenna your range will easily be 150-200 miles or more. Unless blocked by terrain, and limited to aircraft high enough to be line of sight. You would not pick up anything from the NTTR, but between Edwards, China Lake and the Channel Island ranges you should get some good traffic down there. A good external antenna is a must have. If I could only keep one of the antennas on my house it would be the one in the attached link.
