Except possibly for some airline employees the Janet passengers are pretty much the only people in the country who commute to work every day by air. That wasn't always the case, however. When it was an upstart regional carrier in the early 1970's Southwest Airlines sold very inexpensive books of flight coupons for travel between Dallas and Houston, and there was a small group of people who at least on a temporary basis would fly between the cities every day for work. Flying time is only about 1:15 each way, less that many commuter rail and urban transit trips, and in the days before heavy urban growth in the cities and airport overcrowing it was a relatively hassle-free experience.
