Slightly off-topic, but isn't that around the area where the Nimitz Incident occurred? Always been fascinated with those islands, I grew up visiting Catalina every now and then. I have a cousin who camps out on the Channel Islands from time to time, apparently those islands are extremely barren aside from Catalina and the military presence. My understanding is that they do a lot of high tech radar testing from San Clemente. I could be wrong about that, but my theory in regards to the Nimitz Incident was that they were running radar tests on some advanced aircraft when they got caught up in some training exercises.
