Not being critical, but your post reminds of an article about Japan I read in a 1940 aviation magazine. The particular article dealt with how confident the NEI military leadership was in their ability to defeat Japan if they attempted to invade. Lots of comments about their copying Western technology, lack of technical know how, and my personal favorite, their lack of flying skill because of poor eyesight due to their slanted eyes.
