I think I met the guy you're referring to. We helped a couple stranded with a flat tire and spare out on the highway. Took them to his place, and he blew up their spare, replaced their tire free of charge, and gave them shelter for the night.
It's not that he doesn't care, some people just care in different ways.
I'd say the same about Connie. I had a wonderful conversation with her over coffee one morning, and I know that she cares very deeply about the community. The Inn needs Rachel and Rachel needs the Inn.
There may be people out there who truly don't care, but if so I never met one.
